• Keep music Live!

Music is alive in the hearts and minds of the listener. This is amplified to a more personal
connection to sound when that sound is being created from an acoustic instrument.
Music should be something that is experienced in the moment. We should all have the opportunity to engage with live sound in real-time in Levenshulme!

We are dedicated to deliver, interpret
and share music that is living as it is played.

I ampassionate about music and the amazing journey that it takes learners on. I

    Absolute beginners

A bespoke syllabus for every student.

Learning the piano is a journey. There are certain key weigh-points that need to be established and every individual needs to attain that knowledge in learning the piano. “Bespoke” syllabus means that that journey is guided by the student. The questions are: How do they learn? What are they really good at? What music inspires them? What barriers are there? Answering these questions require assessment and appraisal. At at every stage of the process feedback will be accurate and based on individual learning expectations. Having said all that..... the most important thing is that students have fun whilst learning and enjoy making sound!

    ABRSM Grades1 -5

    131 years of British tradition!

ABRSM has a wonderful historical context. Something that has resisted, in a large part, the fluctuations in exam and education expectations for the last 131 years. In essence, across the board, practical exams have offered candidates the experience of a wide range of challenges. These challenges hone skills that are transferable to academic and personal development targets which can contribute to confidence and high levels of self esteem.

Exams in themselves are not what needs to be worked for exclusively however. Education is more than just exams! What these exams offer is the experience of able to perform, prepare, engage and respond in a live event that you control and having to adapt to unforeseen challenges and implement strategies you have learned to succeed.

    ABRSM Grades 6 - 8

Engaging with Music independently and learning the most beautiful challenging music.

Before being able to gain these fantastic and important qualifications Grade 5 Theory exams would have been completed. From Grade 6 we are studying comfortably at ‘A’ level standards but more importantly learners start to develop the techniques and skills that facilitate the learning of the master works. There are too many to list. But you’d have to be here to play the Moonlight Sonata or the Rachmaninov Preludes. These works are breathtaking to listen to and no words can describe the feeling of being able to play the great masters. Learners are encouraged to develop really consistent practice methods and each individual learner is again given a bespoke journey to success.

    ABRSM Theory Grade 1 - 5

Theory is the grammar of music!

Theory lesson are integral to all lessons all the time. At every stage from the earliest beginner to the most advanced semi-professional student. Grammar is an often understood but not clearly describable feature of our language skill. In music education this process is often repeated when having theory lessons separated form the practical element of music. Learning with www.levenshulmepiano.co.uk means that theory is decoded and explained at every step of the journey. This cross referencing means that recall and retention can be improved. Grade 5 theory is essential for moving on to the advanced grade 6 - 8.

If you require just preparation for Grade5 theory a comprehensive assessment and targeted learning objectives will get you a pass with no issue whatsoever.

    Composition

    Creativity is individualism.

All students at all levels of development are encouraged to Compose. Composition and improvisation are an integral part of ALL musical styles and this is incorporated into learning journeys. Understanding genre and style and implementing learned strategies to engage with the sound world that is created from ordering musical information. Students of composition purely are charged at a different rate depending on what they are trying to learn. Semi-Professional/Professional students will be charged at a specific rate according to need and deadlines. From beginner to advanced students enjoy the freedom that composition and improvisation provides in creating real joy and facility in music.

    ABRSM Jazz Grades 1 - 5

Jazz is the product of great human endeavour and reflection.

Jazz syllabus is a proactive and engaging one with ABRSM. The skills and requirements are paired with Jazz standards and the understanding of chord sequences and musical form that enable us to improvise more freely. French Classical School and Western Classical Tradition are part of that process. Scales and harmony are explored that pertain to modal systems and the chord progressions that support them. This process starts right from the beginning so if you are a ‘beginner’ and you want to start with Jazz style then that’s a great starting place!

All learners are catered for with Music. No matter the instrument or discipline. Learners all start developing a better ear to being able to engage more with the music that inspires them and the freedom to choose the pace and direction of learning is a given. Adult learners have tried and tested means of learning and time management. Music can help refine and hone those skills and progression can be very rapid. In 10 weeks adult learners can make significant progress with agreed timetables for self-study.

    Ethan

    Beginner - aged 7

Ethan came to Mr McIntosh with no experience. He was keen to learn and play. He had had issues with concentration especially in a formal learning environment and I thought that he may to be able to focus in lessons. We started with 30 minute sessions. Mr McIntosh has a wonderful style of teaching which is both engaging and fun. Ethan has come on leaps and bounds since starting his lesson. He has a love of piano and all music; in particular movie soundtracks that Mr McIntosh has incorporated into his piano lessons which keep them fun and engaging.

My daughter was a beginner when she started lessons. Koteche is patient and makes sure the lessons are easy to follow and understand. He makes lessons fun and easy to follow while providing expert tuition. My daughter has made wonderful progress in her playing and now has a good grasp of musical theory also. She really looks forward to lessons.

    Aqsa and Ayesha

    Beginner and Grade 1 - Aged 7 and 11

We were introduced to Che through a good friend in October 2019 and we have been having weekly music lessons since. Our children love lessons with Che including the homework he sets, which is no surprise given his enthusiasm, genuine interest and passion for teaching and his very personable and comical nature. My eldest daughter has really grown in her self confidence and abilities leading her to perform piano on various occasions and concerts at school as well as for Community Outreach work in an Elderly Care Home. Che teaches children self-discipline and excellence in their learning and implementing it in their music-playing. Having experienced several teachers beforehand, we quickly saw and felt the difference: Che provides a high-calibre authentic music experience and quickly helps children to progress and realise their own potential.

    KS4 - Piano grade 5

Koteche has a style and pace of teaching that adapts to each student. He doesn’t just teach exams pieces and scales. He educates the student in Music. He has a way of very quickly understanding his students and guiding them on their musical journey. Piano is his passion and that shows in every lesson. My daughter always looked forward to her lessons and came out excited and eager to learn more. Koteche is very honest and open teacher who encourages his students to push themselves and guides them when they struggle with a positive manner which always brings out the best. Sophia

    KS3 - Piano grade 3

Sophia got to grade 3 with Mr McIntosh from a beginner comfortably. The learning was always fun! Lessons were always personable to us with every lesson starting with some questions about students’ well-being while the mum gets the cup of tea! He can personalise the lesson depending on student’s needs, for example giving singing lessons when my daughter was getting ready for singing competition at school.
